Ravens suffer first loss of 2010 season

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 18, 2010) -- The ninth-ranked
Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0
decision to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday in Manchester. The
Ravens dipped to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Northeast-10, while
SNHU improved to 3-2 and 2-2 in league play.
Ashley Jaskula scored the game's lone goal for SNHU in the 21st
minute as she converted on a strike from the far side of the box
off a pass from Ariel Teixeira.
Southern New Hampshire goalkeeper Maggie Weldon made that goal
stand up as she faced 20 shots, needing to make five saves to earn
the shutout victory. Amanda Panaro (Rockland,
Mass.) and Aya Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan)
each registered two shots on goal for the Ravens, while
Shona Franklin (Birmingham, England) totaled eight
shots. The shutout ended Panaro's streak at five-consecutive games
with a goal.
Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox,
Mass.) made two saves, but suffered the loss, which was
her first of the season. SNHU recorded 14 shots, including three on
goal, and had nine in the second 45 minutes alone.
Franklin Pierce returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to
Waltham, Mass. to face Bentley at 3:30 p.m.
