MANCHESTER, N.H. (September
11, 2010) – Senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) clubbed 11 kills on 14 attacks
on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University
volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Saint Anselm in non-conference play
at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The Ravens piled up 36 kills against
just six errors over 61 attacks to hit .492 over the course of the
match.
Franklin Pierce posted the sweep
over Saint Anselm, with set scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-12, to
improve to 3-1 (0-0 Northeast-10) on the season. With the loss,
Saint Anselm falls to 0-4 (0-0 Northeast-10).
Calderon led the way for the
Ravens, as she made just one error on the afternoon to finish with
a .714 attack percentage. Freshman middle Katie Jackson
(Cherry Creek, Colo.) added eight kills and a .545
percentage of her own, while freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria Ind.) chipped in seven kills and hit
.438 on the afternoon.
The trio worked off the set of
senior Pam Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) all day
long, as she racked up 32 assists. The Ravens did not need to play
much defense on the afternoon, though senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led all players with a
match-best 10 digs, while three different Ravens collected two
blocks each.
On the other side of the net,
junior outside hitter Charlotte Tencza and sophomore middle
Samantha Elliott led Saint Anselm with four kills each, while
junior setter Rachel Flaherty dished out 13 assists. Sophomore
defensive specialist Margaret Tereschuk led the Hawks with five
digs.
The Ravens return to the court on
Tuesday, Sept. 14, when they hold their first home match of the
season, as they host Assumption in a non-conference contest. The
match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.
