Kraner, Brewer, Miyazaki win in
singles play
RINDGE, N.H. (April 17, 2010) – The
Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 6-3, at
Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-9 (1-9 Northeast-10),
while Southern New Hampshire improves to 3-10 (3-8 Northeast-10)
with the win.
Freshman James Kraner
(Glastonbury, Conn.), sophomore Ben Brewer
(Brattleboro, Vt.) and sophomore Ryo Miyazaki
(Tokyo, Japan) were each victorious in singles play for
Franklin Pierce on Saturday. Kraner posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over
Southern New Hampshire freshman Jared Wright at first singles,
while Miyazaki tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win against senior MingYang Chuo
in fourth singles. Meanwhile, Brewer picked up an 8-4 triumph over
freshman Tim Hamilton in the pro set format at second singles.
In all, three Southern New
Hampshire players won both their singles and doubles matches on
Saturday afternoon. Sophomore John Niland led the way, as he did
not lose a game on his way to sweeping both matches. He teamed with
Chuo to pick up an 8-0 win at second doubles before posting a 6-0,
6-0 sweep in third singles.
The Ravens return to the court on
Sunday, April 18, when they travel to American International for a
Northeast-10 Conference match at in Springfield, Mass.
