Kraner wins at both first doubles
and first singles
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2010) – The
Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 5-4, at
American International in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 1-10 (1-10
Northeast-10), while American International improves to 2-13 (1-10
Northeast-10) with the win.
Freshman James Kraner
(Glastonbury, Conn.) was victorious at both first singles
and first doubles in the match. In doubles play, he teamed with
sophomore Sam Aubin (Manchester, N.H.) to post an
8-6 victory over American International juniors Robert Lubold and
Alex Touhey. In singles play, Kraner posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Lubold.
Franklin Pierce also picked up wins
from sophomore Ryo Miyazaki (Tokyo, Japan) and
senior Dan Willard (Germany) in singles play on
Sunday. Miyazaki picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Touhey at third
singles, while Willard posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over AIC junior
Jake Anderson.
In all, three American
International players were victorious in both singles and doubles
play, led by freshman Jakub Simicek. He teamed with junior Mike
Little to pick up an 8-3 win at second doubles, then posted a 6-1,
6-0 victory at second singles.
