Kraner, Brewer, Miyazaki all
victorious in both singles and doubles
WORCESTER, Mass. (April 10, 2010) – The
Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team picked up a 5-4
victory at Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 1-6 (1-6 Northeast-10),
while Assumption falls to 1-8 (1-7 Northeast-10) with the loss.
Freshman James Kraner (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted
wins in first doubles and first singles as one of three Ravens to
pick up points in both of their matches on the day.
Kraner kicked things off by teaming
with sophomore Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) to
defeat Assumption juniors Tariq Sheikh and Jimmy Mongello, 8-4, at
first singles. Sophomore Ryo Miyazaki (Tokyo,
Japan) and freshman Kevin Mooiman (North
Attleboro, Mass.) also picked up a win in doubles for
Franklin Pierce with an 8-4 victory over Assumption sophomore
Nathan LaFond and freshman Richard Jakiel in third doubles.
Both Kraner and Brewer were
victories in the top singles flights, as well. Kraner posted a 6-1,
6-4 win over Sheikh in first singles, while Brewer secured a 6-7
(6-8), 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Mongello in second singles. Miyazaki
picked up the final point of the afternoon for Franklin Pierce, as
he posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Assumption sophomore Jayson
Gallant in fifth singles.
For Assumption, freshmen Dylan
Baker and Matt Drolet each won both of their matches on the day.
The two teamed for an 8-3 victory at second doubles, before Baker
picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles and Drolet posted a 6-1,
6-1 victory at fourth singles.
The Ravens return to the court on
Sunday, April 11, when they return home to host Merrimack in a
Northeast-10 Conference match at 10 a.m. in Rindge, N.H.
