Rams top Ravens 6-3 in game one, Ravens rebound for 11-0
victory in nightcap
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 4,
2007) - Franklin Pierce, ranked ninth in this week's
Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II poll, salvaged a
split in a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Philadelphia
University today at Alumni Field. Philadelphia topped the Ravens
6-3 in game one, before the Ravens rebounded with an 11-0 triumph
in the nightcap.
Junior captain Matt
Anderson (Medford, Mass./Medford) was a combined 4-for-6
with a pair of doubles, a home run (2), two runs scored and five
RBI on the afternoon for Franklin Pierce. Senior Andrew
McNulty (Norwood, Mass./Norwood), a transfer from Seton
Hall University, tossed six innings of three-hit shutout work to
collect the win for the Ravens in game two.

Philadelphia plated five runs over the second and third innings to
erase an early 2-0 deficit and claim victory in game one of the
doubleheader.
Senior Bill Geary
(Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) hit 2-for-3 with a
double, run scored and two RBI for Philadelphia. Senior
Keith Heck (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) was
1-2 with a run scored, while classmate Ryan Hayes
(Bensalem, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) finished 1-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore righthander Rob
Fisher (Langhorne, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) earned the win
(1-0), yielding three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout and
four walks over 4.2 innings of work. Classmate Andrew
Brewster (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) retired all four
Franklin Pierce batters he faced to pick up the save (1).
Keith and Kevin Renaud
(Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge), both junior transfers
from Becker College, paced Franklin Pierce. Keith was 2-for-4 with
a home run (1), stolen base, RBI and two runs scored, while Kevin
hit 2-4 with a double, triple and run scored. Matt Anderson
finished 1-2 with an RBI.
Senior preseason All-American
Arric Mather (Danville, N.H./Winnacunnet) suffered
the loss (0-1) as he was touched for five runs, just two earned, on
four hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 2.2 innings.
Franklin Pierce scored twice in its
first at bat as Keith Renaud belted a solo home run with one out.
Kevin Renaud followed with a double and later scored on a delayed
steal with Anderson, who was out on the play.
Philadelphia answered with three
unearned runs in the second with the benefit of just one base hit
as the Rams took advantage of two Raven errors and a walk. Franklin
Pierce got a run back in the third when Keith Renaud singled, stole
second, and later scored on an RBI single from Anderson. The Rams
took the lead for good in the home half thanks to a two-run double
from Geary. Hayes singled in an insurance run for the Rams in the
fourth.

McNulty and Anderson led the way for Franklin Pierce in
the nightcap as the Ravens salvaged a split with a commanding 11-0
victory.
McNulty scattered three hits and a
walk with three strikeouts over the first six innings to collect
the win (1-0), while freshman Tyler Sykes (Sterling,
Mass./St. Peter-Marian) closed it out with a scoreless
seventh, striking out one while yielding a pair of hits.
Anderson hit 3-for-4 with two
doubles, a home run (2), four RBI and two runs scored. Freshman
Kevin Rivers (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) was
also 3-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Senior
Jake Christman (Newton, Mass./Newton South) was
1-3 with two RBI, while classmate Kim Hart (Gorham,
Maine/Gorham) was 1-2 with a double and three runs scored.
No Philadelphia batters managed
multiple hits, but sophomore Kyle Noonan (Morristown,
N.J./Morristown) was 1-for-2 with a double. Junior
Andrew Bednarek (Sea Isle City, N.J./Ocean City)
suffered the loss (0-1), getting hit for five earned runs on seven
hits with four strikeouts and two walks over four innings.
Franklin Pierce got all the runs it
would need with three in the second. Christman plated the first run
with a sacrifice fly, while sophomore Cliff Hicks
(Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) and senior Cory
Shepherd (Worcester, Mass./Burncoat) each added RBI
doubles. The Ravens added two more in the third when Anderson
followed a leadoff triple from Kevin Renaud with his second home
run of the season.
Franklin Pierce added two more in
the fifth before breaking the game wide open with four in the
sixth, sparked by a two-run double from Anderson.
