RINDGE, N.H. (October 26, 2006) –
The Franklin Pierce field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over
Bryant University in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at
Sodexho Field. Sophomore Kayleigh
Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) registered the
game-winning goal with just 4:03 remaining in regulation to secure
the Ravens sixth victory of the season.
Bryant University came out firing early in the first half as
junior Shana Libman (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) collected a
loose-ball rebound in front of the Franklin Pierce net and slipped
it past Raven goalkeeper Amanda
Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) to give the
Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.
Franklin Pierce fired back at the end of the first half as
freshman Ashley Abernathy
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) connected for her second goal
of the season off a Raven penalty to knot the score at 1-1.
In the second half, Franklin Pierce withstood ten Bryant penalty
corners to keep the score tied at 1-1. With 4:03 remaining in the
match, the Ravens broke the scoring deadlock as Jaksina tipped in
her first goal of the season off assists from classmate Stephanie Howard (Norwalk,
Conn./Norwalk) and junior Elizabeth Ellis (Turner,
Maine/Leavitt).
Pietraszuk finished the match with six saves to preserve the
Franklin Pierce victory. Bryant University freshman goalkeeper
Kundayi Mawema (Hare Zimbabwe/Dominican Convent) totaled seven
saves in loss.
Franklin Pierce (6-11, 6-9 NE-10) will be in action again on
Saturday as it travels to Southern Connecticut State University at
1 p.m. Bryant University (10-9, 8-7 NE-10) will travel to American
International on Saturday at 12 p.m.
