Ravens erase early deficit behind
five points from Hislop, Foley nets first two collegiate goals
COLCHESTER, Vt. (September
7, 2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 3 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, erased an early deficit before cruising to a 4-1
victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference
women's soccer action at Duffy Field this afternoon.
Senior All-American
Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland),
the reigning NE-10 Player of the Year, led Franklin Pierce with two
goals and an assist for five points. Freshman Ann Foley
(Rockland, Mass./Rockland) weighed in by netting the
first two goals of her collegiate career to cap the Ravens scoring.
Sophomore Taryn Welker (Wayne,
Pa./Conestoga) dished two assists.
Saint Michael's opened the scoring
just 10:42 into the match when freshman Kelley Ruch
(Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) fired a right-footed shot
that beat Ravens junior goalkeeper Linnea Authier (East
Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) to the right
side.
The Ravens answered as both of
Hislop's goals came in a two-minute span to reverse the advantage.
She took a feed from Welker and equalized at 20:39 with a
left-footed shot. 1:47 later, Hislop took a pass from senior
Elizabeth Allen (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) and
slotted a low shot that deflected off Saint Michael's sophomore
goalkeeper Molly Cole (Dover, N.H./Dover)
in the 23rd minute.
Foley rounded out the first half
scoring when she scored from point blank range in the
40th minute, assisted by Welker, for the first
collegiate marker. Foley rounded out the scoring 6:38 into the
second half, assisted by Hislop, with a left-footed shot.
Cole finished with five saves in
first half action for Saint Michael's, while sophomore
Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter)
collected four stops in the second half. Authier made one save in
goal for the Ravens, who out-shot the Purple Knights by an 18-5
margin.
Franklin Pierce (3-0-1, 0-0-1
NE-10) is back in action on Saturday with a key Conference match at
Bryant University at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (1-3, 0-2 NE-10) visits
Merrimack College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
