Hislop double in 34-second
span enough for Ravens
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September
10, 2005) - Senior All-American Laura Hislop
(Belfast, Northern Ireland) scored two goals
34-seconds apart mid-way through the second half to lift Franklin
Pierce, ranked No. 3 in this week's National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, to a 2-0
victory over Bryant University, ranked sixth in the region, in
Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Bulldog Stadium
this afternoon.
Hislop's quick double was more than
enough as sophomore Jenna Mello (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) preserved her second shutout of the
season (ninth career) with five
saves.
The two sides played though a
scoreless first half in which both teams played rather
conservatively. Things opened up in the second half with the teams
combining for 17 shots (nine for Franklin Pierce) and Hislop broke
the ice with a shot to the lower right corner at 66:52. The Ravens
quickly intercepted after Bryant kicked off and Hislop broke in for
her second unassisted tally at 67:26.
With the two goals today, Hislop
has now netted 70 over her three-year career at Franklin Pierce and
totaled 176 career points. She has also played a role in ten of the
Ravens 13 goals scored so far this season.
Freshman Jessica Neales
(Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) registered four saves in
goal for the Bulldogs.
Franklin Pierce (4-0-1, 2-0-1
NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 13
Assumption College in a key Conference match at 7 p.m. Bryant
(3-2-2, 0-1-1 NE-10) visits Bentley College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
