Duplissie, Hart and Cummings lead Ravens to first
Conference win
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April
1, 2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 30 in this week's
Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II coaches poll,
collected its first Conference win of the season with a 12-3
victory at American International College in Northeast-10 baseball
action at AIC Park this afternoon.
Franklin Pierce, winners of three
of its last four, saw its offense erupt for 12 runs and 16 hits,
while three Ravens pitchers did not surrender an earned run and
just six hits and three walks on the day.
Sophomore Kim Hart
(Gorham, Maine/Gorham) led the Franklin Pierce
offense as he hit 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk and three
RBI. Sophomore Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey,
N.H./Monadnock Regional) was 4-5, belting his sixth
home run of the
season.
Duplissie also got the start on the
mound and surrendered just two unearned runs on two hits and three
walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work. Junior
Tyler Cummings (South Paris, Maine/Oxford
Hills) picked up his second win of the season (2-1)
with 3.2 innings of two-hit shutout relief striking out four.
Sophomore Garrett Olson
(Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) finished 2-5 with two
RBI for the Ravens, while junior Mike Feetham (Quincy,
Mass./North Quincy) was 3-5 with two doubles and an
RBI. Junior Mike Chambers (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) extended his hitting streak to 13
games with a two-run double in the third inning.
Freshman David Dest
(Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) was the lone AIC
player with multiple hits as he was 2-3 with a double and RBI.
Classmate Michael Massery (Pittsfield,
Mass./Taconic) collected a pinch-hit single in his
lone at bat and scored.
Senior Jon Ferry
(Thorndike, Mass./Palmer) took the loss on the mound
for the Yellow Jackets, yielding four earned runs on eight hits and
three walks with two strikeouts over 6.1
innings.
Duplissie put the Ravens on the
board with his sixth homer of the season (13 games) in the top of
the second. Chambers' two-run double put the Ravens up 3-0 after
three.
AIC closed within a run with a pair
in the fifth. Dest lined an RBI double and junior Neal
Quesnel (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) scored on
a wild pitch.
Franklin Pierce added a single run
in the seventh thanks to an RBI single by Olson before busting the
game open with four runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Hart
collected an RBI single to spark the eighth and added a two-run
double in the ninth. Feetham registered an RBI double, while Olson
collected an RBI single in the final frame.
Franklin Pierce (7-6, 1-3 NE-10) is
off until Tuesday when it visits Bentley College for a Conference
match-up at 3:30 p.m. The Ravens home opener is now scheduled for
Thursday, April 7, when they host Bentley at 3:30 p.m. American
International (4-9, 0-4 NE-10) visits UMass Lowell for a
doubleheader tomorrow at noon.
SCHEDULE NOTE:
Franklin Pierce's three-game weekend series at Queens College
scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled due to the
poor weather forecast.
