Franklin Pierce tops Bryant, 3-1

Clifford leads Ravens past Bryant with a goal and an assist

Jenee Clifford Jenee Clifford tallied a goal and an assist on Thursday at Bryant.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 20, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce field hockey team defeated the Bryant University Bulldogs, 3-1 in Northeast-10 conference action this afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.

Franklin Pierce scored the first two goals of the match early in the first half to secure the victory. Senior captain Amy McMullin (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonske) scored the Ravens first goal just five minutes into the match off a feed from freshman Jenee Clifford (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane).

Senior Trisha Langevin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) would score Franklin Pierce's second goal with 11:52 remaining in the first half. Langevin took a pass from freshman Trisha Slowinski (Clorain, Mass./Mohawk Regional) and beat Bryant University goalkeeper Kasey Kortz (Louisville, KY./St. Francis) with the shot to give Franklin Pierce a 2-0 lead.

Bryant would cut the Franklin Pierce lead to 2-1, when Laynie Sadler (Rehobeth, Mass./Dighton-Rehobeth) notched her ninth goal of the season with 3:40 remaining in the first half. Sadler deposited a shot into the back of the net off an
assist from sophomore Krissy Levis (Andover, Mass./Andover) and senior Maureen Burns (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy).

Franklin Pierce would add an insurance goal in the second half, as Clifford scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior Laura Blanchard (Rockport, Mass./Rockport).

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) stopped ten shots for Franklin Piece, while Kortz stopped four shots for Bryant University.

Franklin Pierce (7-11, 5-10 NE-10) will be in action again on Saturday as it plays its final match of the year against Southern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. Bryant University (4-14, 3-12 NE-10) will host American International College on Saturday for a match starting at 10 a.m.
