Scavo, Foley lead Ravens to
ninth-straight win, share of NE-10 regular season title
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October
17, 2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 6 the most recent
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, clinched a share of the Northeast-10 Conference
regular season title with a 3-1 victory over American International
College in NE-10 women's soccer action at AIC Park this afternoon.
Junior Alex Scavo
(Toronto, Ontario/Brother Andre) and freshman
Ann Foley (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) each
registered a goal and assist to lead Franklin Pierce to a share of
its fifth-straight Northeast-10 regular season crown. Helping the
Ravens clinch a share as well as the top seed in the upcoming NE-10
Tournament was Bryant University with a 3-0 victory over Assumption
College this afternoon in Smithfield, R.I. The Ravens can clinch
the NE-10 regular season title out-right with a win or tie in their
final regular season match on Saturday at Sodexho
Field.
Scavo opened the scoring just 4:05
into the match with a low drive from 15-yards out to the lower left
corner of the net. She then assisted on the Ravens second marker,
scored by Foley, combining with sophomore Jenna
Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) at 20:44.
AIC cut the Ravens lead in half
7:46 before the intermission when freshman Sasha
Daniels (Hillsboro, N.H./Hillsboro-Deering) played
the ball back to sophomore Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham,
Mass./Minnechaug) for a high shot from 25-yards out.
Franklin Pierce got an insurance
goal from Senior All-American Sonya Hughes (Balbriggan,
Ireland), off a long pass from Foley, in the
67th minute.
Junior Linnea Authier
(East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) preserved
the win for the Ravens with five saves in goal, while junior
Sara Mead (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument
Mountain) finished with four stops for the Yellow
Jackets.
Franklin Pierce (13-1-1, 11-1-1
NE-10) rounds out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts
Southern Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m. American
International (1-11-1, 0-10-1 NE-10) visits Saint Anselm College on
Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
