Ravens roll into postseason
winners of ten-straight, thanks to Allen's first-half goal
RINDGE, N.H. (October 22,
2005) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 5 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, collected its tenth-straight win with a 1-0
decision over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10
Conference women's soccer action at Sodexho Field this afternoon.
Franklin Pierce, which had clinched
its fifth-straight NE-10 regular season title out-right with
Merrimack College's 1-0 victory over Bryant University yesterday,
will begin its quest for a sixth-straight NE-10 Tournament title
next week, having sewn up homefield advantage as long it is alive.
The Ravens have won every NE-10 Tournament title since joining the
Conference in 2000.
Senior Elizabeth Allen
(Durham, N.H./Oyster River) scored the lone goal of
the match, assisted by freshman Ann Foley (Rockland,
Mass./Rockland), with a slow roller to the lower left
corner at 22:11. The goal was Allen's third of her career, all of
which are match-winning strikes.
Sophomore Jenna Mello
(Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) made four saves, two
in each half, to preserve the shutout victory for the Ravens.
Junior Stephanie McGinley (Naugatuck,
Conn./Naugatuck) kept Southern's comeback hopes alive
with four stops, all in the second half.
Franklin Pierce (14-1-1, 12-1-1
NE-10) now awaits a quarterfinal round opponent for the
Northeast-10 Conference Tournament next Sunday, October 30, at a
time to be announced later this week. Southern Connecticut (10-5-2,
6-5-2 NE-10) rounds out its regular season at Le Moyne College on
Tuesday at 3 p.m.
