Ravens suffer losses to Teikyo Post and Southern New
Hampshire
RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 4, 2004) –
The Franklin Pierce volleyball team lost their final two matches in
the Bridgeport Purple Knight Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Their final record for the tournament was 1-3.
The Ravens were defeated by Teikyo Post University, 3-1 (30-28,
19-30, 30-28, 30-17) in their first match of the day. Sophomore
outside hitter Christina Collett
(Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone) registered a season high 20
kills, while freshman setter Bria
Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) posted 33
assists. The Ravens also received solid contributions from junior
defensive specialist Tara Vece
(Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) who chipped in with 15
digs.
In the tournament's consolation game, Southern New Hampshire
University avenged Friday's loss to Franklin Pierce by
defeating the Ravens 3-1 (30-25, 22-30, 30-16, 30-22). Christina
Collett (Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone) provided eleven kills and four
digs in this match. She also came up with a season-high five aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) chipped in with eleven kills and eleven digs, while
Bria Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) added 30 assists
and nine digs.
Franklin Pierce (1-4, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action Tuesday,
September 7 when they travel to Bryant University for a
Northeast-10 match beginning at 7 p.m.
