Welcome double leads Ravens past
Chieftains
EASTON, Mass. (September

National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, got a goal in each half to post a 2-0 victory
over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer
action at Chieftain Stadium this afternoon.
Senior All-American
Meghan Welcome (Haverhill,

scoring with 5:57 remaining in the opening half off a corner kick.
Junior Sonya Hughes (Balbriggan, Ireland)
served an inswinging corner that a Stonehill defender nearly
re-directed into the goal, but it caromed off the crossbar to
Welcome who one-timed the rebound into an open net.
Welcome added the Ravens insurance
goal in the 80th minute when a corner kick from junior
All-American Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern
Ireland) found her on the near post for another
one-timed shot.
Stonehill freshman goalkeeper
Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield,
Mass./Marshfield) kept the Chieftains in the match by
making a season-high 12 saves, including several point-blank
chances by the Ravens in the early going to keep the match
scoreless. Freshman Jenna Mello (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) registered two stops in posting her
second shutout of the season.
The Ravens controlled the match
from the outset and compiled a 31-3 shots advantage on the day.
