Highlanders ride late error to
game one win Borowski fires four-hit shutout to lead Ravens in
nightcap
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 14,
2004) - Franklin Pierce, receiving votes in both the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) and
Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II polls this week,
split another non-conference doubleheader with New Jersey Institute
of Technology at the Gene Cusic Classic tonight. NJIT used a
Franklin Pierce error to post a 4-3 comeback win in game one, but
the Ravens rebounded with an 8-0 victory in the
nightcap.
In game one, New Jersey Tech turned
an untimely Franklin Pierce error into two runs with two out in the
bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 3-3. Junior
Dan Lupo (West Milford, N.J./West
Milford) drove in the winning run in the bottom of
the seventh with a bloop single over the Ravens drawn-in infield.
Franklin Pierce redshirt freshman
Matt Fisher (Athol, Mass./Athol) was the
hard-luck loser as he allowed two runs, just one earned, on two
hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings of relief
work. Freshman Clay Jenkins (Easton,
N.H./Profile) made his first collegiate start and
allowed two runs, just one earned, on one hit with four walks and
four strikeouts over the first five-plus innings.
Sophomore Elliott Shea
(Jaffrey, N.H./Conant) led the Franklin Pierce
offense as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base. Classmate
Mike Feetham (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy)
and freshman Kim Hart (Gorham,
Maine/Gorham) were each 1-3 with an RBI.
Franklin Pierce broke a scoreless
game in the fourth with two runs as Feetham registered and RBI
single and sophomore Mike Chambers (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry) scored on a Hart fielder's choice.
The Ravens increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth as senior
Eric Cavers (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford
Hills) tripled and scored on a single by Shea.
