Ravens fall in
overtime; finish with weekend split
BRIDGEPORT, Conn.
(Nov. 21, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce men's basketball
team suffered a 93-92 overtime loss to non-conference foe
Bloomfield College today at Bruce Webster Court. Junior
Daniel Terrell (Somerdale, NJ) nailed a
three-pointer with ten seconds left in the overtime period, lifting
the Deacons to their second win of the weekend. With the loss,
Franklin Pierce wraps up the weekend with a record of 1-1 at the
Purple Knight Invitational, hosted by the University of
Bridgeport.
After trailing 45-42 at the half,
Bloomfield fought back to even the score at 84 at the end of
regulation. The Deacons outscored Franklin Pierce nine to eight in
the overtime period to preserve their perfect 3-0 record.
Three players from each team scored
in double-digits. Terrell led all scorers with 25 points and was
named tournament Most Valuable Player. The guard shot 8-of-19 from
the field including 7-of-13 from three point range. Fellow guard
Andre Dabney (Plainfield, NJ) netted 21
points. The sophomore also picked up a game-best five steals.
Controlling the boards for the Deacons was senior Jared
Hillman (Plainfield, NJ). He grabbed nine rebounds
from his forward position.
Leading the way for the Ravens was
junior forward Justin Powell (Brookline,
Mass./Brookline), who notched 24 points on 9-of-17
shooting. He also added seven rebounds (four offensive) en route to
earning All-Tournament honors. Freshman guard Darrell
Anderson (Kansas City, Kan./The Winchendon School)
posted a double-double off the bench, scoring 18 points and
snatching a game-high 13 rebounds (nine offensive). Classmate
Mitchell Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas/Cushing
Academy) added 16 points and six rebounds despite the
loss.
Franklin Pierce (1-1) will return
to the court on Tuesday, as they open up their Northeast-10
Conference schedule with a game at Southern New Hampshire, which
tips off at 7:30 p.m. Bloomfield (3-0) will be idle until Tuesday,
November 30, when they host Wilmington for a game beginning at 8
p.m. Franklin Pierce and Bloomfield will meet again on December 29.
The teams will face off in the Bryant University Tournament at 7
p.m.
