Jones registers six points in Ravens second straight win
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 13, 2003)
– The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team earned its
second straight win with a 6-1 rout of American International
College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Senior captain Debbie Jones
(Escondido, Calif./Bishops) tallied five points in the game
with two goals and two assists, while sophomore Laura Blanchard (Rockport,
Mass./Rockport) also netted two goals. Blanchard opened up
the scoring with 21:32 left in the first half as she received a
pass from Jones to make the score 1-0. Jones knocked in her two in
the second at 29:20 and 7:17 respectively.
Freshman Collette Brady
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) netted her second goal on the
season at 15:15 to make the score 3-0 after one.
Junior Chelsey Munson (Weybridge,
Vt./Middlebury Union) notched her first of the season off a
pass from Elise Porter (Pepperell,
Mass./North Middlesex) at 16:45 in the second.
Sophomore goalkeeper, Brandi
Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) made one save in the
first period and was relieved by freshman Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) in the second. AIC goalkeeper Megan Trystman (South
Africa/Maris Stella) made 12 saves.
The Yellow Jackets' lone goal came in the second half as
Melissa Cuthbert (Kwazulu Natral, South Africa/Westville
Girl's) put the ball past Pietraszuk. Pietrazuk made five
saves on the afternoon.
Franklin Pierce (2-3, 2-3 NE-10)
returns to action on Monday when it hosts Plymouth State in a
non-conference matchup at 5 p.m. American International College
(0-5, 0-4 NE-10) next travels to Lasell on Monday for a non-league
game at 4 p.m.
