#2 Franklin Pierce Picks AIC Apart, 10-0

Welcome totals career-high ten points with career-best four goals

RINDGE, N.H. (September 30, 2002) - Sophomore Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) totaled a career-high ten points to lead Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 2 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, to a 10-0 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

Welcome's ten points was just two shy of the school record 12 set by Pauliina Miettinen in a 1998 match against University at Albany. Welcome accumulated the total with a career-high four goals (one shy of the school record set four times, twice by Miettinen) and two assists.

Welcome opened the scoring in the 25th minute when a long pass by senior Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) sent her in one-on-one with AIC goalkeeper Nicole Kobjack (Springfield, Mass./Central) where she tucked the ball into the lower right corner.

Ylesmaki added a goal and two assists on the afternoon for Franklin Pierce, while senior Andrea Caesar (Visby, Sweden) chipped in a goal and an assist. Junior Jillian Tente (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) netted her first goal of the season to round out the first half scoring as the Ravens staked out a 4-0 halftime lead.

Franklin Pierce sophomore Laura King (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) netted her first career goal, assisted by classmate Sarah von Colditz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego) for her first career point. Junior Stephanie Hartenstein (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and freshman Elizabeth Brunton (Birch Harbor, Maine/Sumner) also netted markers for Franklin Pierce.

Junior goalkeeper Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) totaled two saves in 66-minutes of action and combined with sophomore Keeley Rafter (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) for the seventh shutout of the season for Franklin Pierce.

Kobjack posted three stops for AIC in first half action, while senior Heather Garrow made five second half saves.
