Ravens match program record with
fifth shutout to start season
WEST HAVEN, Conn.
(September 18, 2002) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 3 in
this week's National Soccer Coach Association of America
(NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, matched the program record for
shutouts to begin a season with a 7-0 victory over the University
of New Haven in non-conference women's soccer action at Dodds
Stadium this afternoon.
It marks the fifth-straight shutout
of the fall for the Ravens in as many matches, matching the program
record set at the outset of the 2000 campaign. Sophomore
Keeley Rafter (Gloucester,
Mass./Gloucester) made her first career start for
Franklin Pierce and earned her first career shutout without making
a save. The Ravens out-shot New Haven by a 31-1 margin for the
contest.
Senior
midfielderKamille Rosenfalck (Borup,
Denmark) led the Ravens offense with four points on a
goal and two assists, while freshmanElizabeth Brunton
(Birch Harbor, Maine/Sumner) netted the first two
goals of her collegiate career.
Sophomore Meghan
Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) played a role in
the first two goals of the match for Franklin Pierce, assisting on
junior Stephanie Hartenstein's (Chelmsford,
Mass./Chelmsford) game winner at the 20:11-mark,
before netting a marker of her own, assisted by junior
Andrea Caesar (Visby, Sweden), in the
35th minute of play.
Caesar netted a goal in the 37th
minute to round out the opening half scoring, assisted by senior
Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) - her
first of two helpers on the afternoon. Also recording her first
career point this afternoon was freshman Heather Wysor
(Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) with a goal at the
73:27-mark, assisted byRosenfalck.
New Haven sophomore Lisa Simpson
played all 90-minutes in net for the Chargers and registered 15
saves.
Franklin Pierce (5-0, 4-0 NE-10)
returns to the pitch on Saturday for a key Northeast-10 Conference
match-up at College Saint Rose at 1 p.m. New Haven (1-4-1) travels
to Bentley College on Monday for a match at 3:30 p.m.
