#3 Franklin Pierce Blanks Saint Rose, 4-0 ALBANY, N.Y.

Ravens register record sixth-straight shutout to open season

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 21, 2002) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 3 in this week's National Soccer Coach Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, posted its record sixth shutout to start the season in claiming a 4-0 triumph at College of Saint Rose, ranked seventh in the New England region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Bleeker Stadium this afternoon.

Franklin Pierce surpasses the previous mark of five shutouts set at the outset of the 2000 campaign. Junior Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) remains unscored upon over her first 425 minutes in a Franklin Pierce uniform. The Champlain College transfer posted her fifth career shutout, which ties her for eighth all-time in program history, without making a save in today's match as the Ravens back line smothered the Golden Knights forwards all afternoon.

Senior Andrea Caesar (Visby, Sweden) and sophomore Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) led the offense with a goal and an assist each.

Welcome netted the game winner at the 21:56-mark when she converted a penalty kick. The Ravens took a 2-0 lead in the 41st minute as senior back Nicole Cheadle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) tipped in a Caesar corner kick from the left side.

Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) put the Ravens up 3-0 with an unassisted tally at the 69:59-mark, deking one defender then dribbling ten yards before shooting from the right flank. Caesar rounded out the scoring in the 75th minute, assisted by Welcome, with a 12-yard drive.

Saint Rose appeared to open the scoring in the opening ten minutes of the match, but had a goal called back on an offside call. The Ravens finished with a 13-7 shots advantage for the match.

Golden Knights senior goalkeeper Kerri Volkmuth registered four saves in 81-minutes of work.
