Sophomore Sarah Lavway nets two in Ravens third straight
Conference win
RINDGE, N.H. (October 5, 2002) - The
Franklin Pierce University field hockey team registered its
third-straight Conference win with a 6-0 shutout over American
International College in Northeast-10 Conference action this
afternoon at the new Franklin Pierce Field Hockey/Lacrosse Field.
The six-goal win ties a program record for the greatest margin of
victory in a regular season contest.
Sophomore Sarah Lavway (Unity,
Maine/Mount View) recorded a pair of goals to lead the
Ravens offense this afternoon, while junior Debbie Jones (Escondido,
Calif./Bishops) posted one goal and two assists in the win.
Senior Kelly Henry (Wyoming,
R.I./Chariho Regional) tallied a goal and an assist.
Lavway opened up the scoring just six minutes into the match, as
she took a pass from Jones to make the score 1-0. She scored her
second maker of the afternoon just eight minutes later when she
blew a shot past AIC goalkeeper, Jill Nickerson, on the right
side.
Jones helped the Ravens go up by three just one minute later as she
was sent in on a breakaway and snuck the ball in between
Nickerson's pads at the 20:30 mark.
Henry then closed out the first half with her second marker of the
season, as she beat a crowd of AIC defenders to make the score
4-0.
The Ravens tacked on two more goals in the second half, as Stephanie Bradley (Warrington,
Pa./Miller Place (N.Y.)) netted her third goal of the season
and newcomer Laura Blanchard
(Rockport, Mass./Rockport) posted the first goal of her
collegiate career.
Senior goalkeeper, Kasey
McClements (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) made three saves for her
second shutout this fall. With the win, McClements ties her
previous school record of two shutout victories in a season.
Nickerson made 18 saves for the Yellow Jackets despite the
loss.
