WORCESTER, Mass. (October 19, 2002) -
Assumption College rebounded from an early deficit with three
unanswered goals in claiming a 3-1 victory over Franklin Pierce in
Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action this afternoon.
Junior Lindsey Stone got Assumption rolling with an unassisted
tally 10:54 into the match to knot the score at a goal apiece.
Franklin Pierce opened the scoring at the 4:49-mark as senior Kelly Henry (Wyoming, R.I./Chariho
Regional) scored off a feed from junior Debbie Jones (Escondido,
Calif./Bishops).
The Greyhounds took the lead for good with just over three minutes
to play in the first half when freshman Kerry Kelly scored,
assisted by senior Elizabeth Croteau.
Assumption added an insurance marker with less than ten minutes to
play in regulation. Junior Greta van der Linden netted the tally,
assisted by classmate Karyn Leipold.
Assumption senior goalkeeper Kristyn Bonnyman preserved the win
with five saves, while Franklin Pierce senior Kasey McClements (Ashland,
Mass./Ashland) registered 16 stops.
Franklin Pierce (3-8, 3-4 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when
it hosts Southern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m. Assumption
(8-4, 6-3 NE-10) travels to LIU-C.W. Post tomorrow for a match at 2
p.m.
