Ylesmaki double lifts Ravens to
Conference victory
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 19,
2002) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 4 in this week's
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas
Division II poll, got a pair of goals from senior
Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) and
held on for a 2-1 victory over Le Moyne College, ranked sixth in
the New England region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer
action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex this afternoon.
Ylesmaki's two goals came in a
58-second span late in the first half. She first headed in a cross
from sophomore Meghan Welcome (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill) to open the scoring at the
35:42-mark.
On the ensuing Franklin Pierce
possession, Ylesmaki followed up her own shot to give the Ravens a
needed cushion entering the intermission. Senior Andrea
Caesar (Visby, Sweden) was credited with an assist on
the second marker.
Le Moyne trimmed the lead to 2-1
just 3:38 into the second half when senior Courtney Merriman
collected a Franklin Pierce misplay in front of the goal and
deposited it into the open net. Freshman Laney Blais registered the
assist.
Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper
Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) preserved
the victory with just one save in the match, while Le Moyne
sophomore Char Leonard stopped three shots.
Franklin Pierce (11-0-2, 10-0-2
NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Saint Anselm
College at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (7-6-3, 5-5-3 NE-10) closes out the
