Freshman Stephanie Hartenstein
Sparks 4-0 Win Over UMass Lowell
RINDGE, N.H. (October 3, 2000) - Freshman
Stephanie
Hartenstein(Chelmsford, Mass.) came off the bench to
score three goals as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer
team beat UMass Lowell, 4-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference match at
Crystal Field.
Hartenstein entered the game in 33rd minute with the Ravens
(7-1, 5-0 NE-10) unable to penetrate the packed in defense of the
River Hawks (5-5, 3-5 NE-10). She changed that in the 41st minutes
when she tracked down a through pass from Andrea
Caesar (Visby, Sweden) and beat UMass Lowell
goalkeeper Jaime Powers (Palmer, Mass.)
with a hard shot to the far post from 15 yards out.
The Ravens went up 2-0 just 70 seconds later when
Nicole Cheadle (West Chester, Pa.)
charged through the box and scored on a header off a corner kick
from Julia Uusmalmi (Tampere, Finland).
Hartenstein capped off the three-minute flurry when she
one-timed a pass from Jenny Petronis
(Burnt Hills, N.Y.) from 15 yards to make it 3-0 in the 44th
minute.
Hartenstein capped off her hat trick in the 71st minute with a
nice second effort off a pass from Jillian
Tente (Wakefield, R.I.). She is now fourth on the
team in scoring with five goals and 11 points.
The Ravens had a distinct advantage in shots (30-0) and corner
kicks (15-0). Powers came up with 10 saves, while Franklin Pierce
Kim Higgins made one save to record her third shutout of the
season.
Franklin Pierce is back in action Saturday when they travel to
face American International College. UMass Lowell also resumes play
Saturday, hosting the College of St. Rose.
