RINDGE, N.H. (October 28, 2000) -
Julia Uusmalmi (Tampere,
Finland) scored on a wind-blown shot nine minutes into the game and
the rest of the day went the way of Franklin Pierce during a 7-1
win Saturday over Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference
women's soccer match at Crystal Field.
Uusmalmi and Jenny Petronis (Burnt Hills,
N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals as the Ravens (12-2-2, 10-1-2
NE-10) played their final regular-season match at home.
The Ravens wrap up the regular
season Monday at Bryant and will be at home Wednesday to host a
first round game at 2 p.m. One of the teams they could face is Le
Moyne (11-7, 7-7 NE-10).
Before the game, Franklin Pierce
honored its four seniors: Kim Higgins (Rochester, N.H.),
Minna Mustonen (Helsinki,
Finland), Amy Hingston (Brookline, Mass.)
and Tanja Pihlblad (Lonsboda,
Sweden). Mustonen and Pihlblad each scored a goal, while Higgins
recorded five saves in goal to pick up the win.
Stephanie Hartenstein
(Chelmsford, Mass.) also scored for the Ravens, on a penalty kick
in the 50th minute that put Franklin Pierce ahead 5-0 at the time.
Shannon
Card (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored for Le Moyne on a hard
shot off a direct kick from 25 yards out in the 82nd minute.
Suzanne
Mullen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made three saves in
goal for the Dolphins.

Senior Day~
Kim Higgins (Rochester, N.H.): A
three-year player, Higgins has steadily worked her way up the depth
chart to earn significant time in net for the Ravens. The
Rochester, N.H. native posses good size and athleticism. Higgins
holds a 10-1-1 all-time record to go along with a .784 save
percentage. Higgins currently ranks eighth in Division II with a
0.60 goals against average. An American Studies major, Higgins
aspires to become an elementary school teacher.
Amy Hingston (Brookline, Mass.):
Co-Captain. A four-year player at FPC, Amy has made significant
strides since joining the team in 1997. Hingston has forced her way
into a leadership role and a spot in the Franklin Pierce
midfield. One of the team's top defenders, Hingston has appeared in
72 games and been a member of two national championship teams. An
unselfish player, Hingston controls the defensive midfield but can
push up in the attack, registering 19 career points. Hingston is a
criminal justice major at Franklin Pierce, and aspires to become a
police officer.
Minna Mustonen
(Helsinki, Finland): A three-year player at Franklin Pierce,
Mustonen has established herself as one of the premiere women
soccer players in the college ranks. A 1999 All-America and
Division II scoring champion, Mustonen is four points shy of fourth
place on the all-time Franklin Pierce scoring list despite having
played in just 48 games. The 1999 Division II tournament offensive
MVP scored the game-winning goal in Franklin Pierce's 3-1
championship win over Cal Poly Pomona. She was selected to play in
the Umbro East-West all-star game-one of only seven players to be
selected that did not play in Division I- and scored a goal. For
her career, Mustonen averages over three points per game. She leads
this year's squad with 14 goals and 37 points while being heavily
marked by opposing defenses and is currently 18th in Division II in
points per game (2.64). Mustonen is an information technology
major.
Tanja Pihlblad
(Lonsboda, Sweden): Co-Captain. A four-year player and two-time
captain of the squad, Pihlblad is a respected leader both on and
off the field. Has appeared in 60 games while coming back from a
season-ending knee injury in 1997. Pihlblad was named to the
Division II all-tournament team after scoring a goal in each of the
semifinal and final rounds of Franklin Pierce's title march last
year. Her 22 career goals places her 15th on the all-time list and
she stands 18th on the all-time points list. An English major and
dean's list student, Pihlblad aspires to become a sports
journalist.
