NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (2/11/26) - Senior Geno Facchetti (Wilbraham, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce football team was selected as the NE10 Sport Excellence Awards winner in his sport, Wednesday.
The Sport Excellence Award, which has been handed out since the 2009-10 season and is one of the most prestigious honors the NE10 bestows, is given to one top individual from each of the league's seven fall sports. Facchetti is the 21st Raven to earn the honor, including the first football player and 12th male student-athlete.
Facchetti, who owns a 3.54 grade-point average (GPA) as he pursues his undergraduate degree in health science, adds to his list of accolades that include D2CCA All-American Second Team Defense, Don Hansen NCAA DII All-America Team Honorable Mention, D2Football Elite 100 Team, D2CCA Super Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year, NEFW DII All-New England Team, NE10 Defensive Player of the Year, NE10 All-Conference First Team Defense, NE10 Academic All-Conference and earned the Joe Zabilski Award. He started all 10 games for the Ravens this season and finished with 62 tackles (39 solo), led the conference with 15.5 tackles for loss for 69 yards and set a new single-season school record with 9.0 sacks.
Off the field, Facchetti completed a research project identifying the effect of calorie intake and sports performance, plays an important role in campus activities as an RA and has participated in numerous volunteer activities.
To qualify for Academic All-Conference and Sport Excellence honors, a student-athlete must have started at least half or played in two-thirds of all contests, made significant contributions, and held a minimum of 3.30 GPA. Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence recipients must also have completed at least two years of athletic eligibility, completed two consecutive semesters of full-time enrollment at their current institution (not including the most recent term), met the 3.30 cumulative GPA requirement in all undergraduate and graduate work, and been named to the Academic All-Conference Team for that season.
