SMITHFIELD, R.I. (9/6/25) - The men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their season at the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational, marking their first meet under new head coach Liam Murphy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the women, the team finished in last place but showed determination and resilience throughout the meet. Freshman Melany Walker (Queens, N.Y.) led the team with a time of 22:54.3 in the 3.1-mile race. She was followed by Lauren Muldoon (Hampton, N.H.) and Jennifer Kulick (Goffstown, N.H.), who finished with times of 25:16.0 and 26:49.7. Rounding out the day for the team were Rachel LeBlanc (Winchendon, Mass.) and Lillian Byrne (Methuen, Mass.). Despite having a small roster, the women's team delivered a respectable showing.
On the men's side, the Ravens finished mid-pack, placing 4th out of 7 teams. Leading the way was Sam Fortin (Hebron, Conn.), who clocked a time of 16:35.5 in the 3.1-mile race. Close behind were Gunner Currier (Canaan, N.H.) and Liam Doherty (Methuen, Mass.), finishing just a second apart. Freshman David Breault (Dudley, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a time of 17:11.4, followed by John Viens (Berkshire, Vt.) with a time of 17:31.8, rounding out a solid showing among the team's top runners. Freshmen Trevor Maheu (Canaan, N.H.) and Evan Spence (Salem, N.H.) also delivered strong performances in their collegiate debuts, signaling a bright future for the program.
NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Dartmouth, Massachusetts for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 20th.
