Chisholm Secures a 1-0 win at Bridgeport in Season Opener

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (9/4/25) - The Ravens found themselves facing the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights to open the 2025 season. Andy Chisholm (Little Compton, R.I.) gets the break for Franklin Pierce with two minutes remaining in what was a quiet first half. He takes advantage after a bobble from the Purple Knights goaltender, earning his first goal of the season and overall, securing the first win in what hopes to be a promising campaign for the Ravens.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Andy Chisholm sparked the Ravens' offense in the final two minutes of the first half. After Chisholm attempted a header on goal, Guillermo Rios (Asuncion, Paraguay) and the Purple Knights goaltender both go after the ball. Rios was able to break up the play, leaving the ball loose in front of the net, giving Chisholm the second chance he needed to find the back of the net.
  • In the second half, both teams put up strong performances, with the Purple Knights looking for their first goal of the season, and the Ravens looking to extend their lead. With another opportunity found in the final two minutes of a half, this time for Bridgeport, a hand ball right outside the box earns them a penalty kick. With the minutes dwindling down, the Ravens defense was able to block the shot, and clear the ball, erasing the Purple Knights' last opportunity of evening the score.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Joao Araujo (Madeira, Portugal) and Borja Blazquez (Toledo, Spain) both recorded two shots on goal.
  • David Skorodumov (Ashland, Mass.) earned the win with a shutout, making a total of 4 saves.
  • Bridgeport outshot the Ravens 8 to 9 despite not being able to find the back of the net.
  • Both teams committed several penalties, with the Ravens causing 14 fouls and the Purple Knights causing 19.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will travel to Massachusetts next Wednesday, September 10th, to face Bentley University in a non-conference matchup, hoping to carry the momentum from today's win.
