Field Hockey Holds Their Own in 0-2 Loss to Reigning National Champions

RINDGE, N.H. 9/24/25 - The Ravens find themselves facing another difficult opponent in the NE10, this time against the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, Saint Anselm College. Despite a tough matchup, a strong Ravens defense only allowed the Hawks to score two goals against them.

Score: Franklin Pierce 0, Saint Anselm 2

Record: Franklin Pierce (1-5, 0-2 NE10), Saint Anselm (5-3, 2-0 NE10)

Location: Sodexo Field, Rindge, N.H.

Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2025

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens held their own in the first quarter, facing a total of 8 shots and 3 penalty corners from the Hawks. Nina Depew, (Acton, Mass.) Olivia O'Brien, (Upton, Mass.) and Delaney Condon (Atkinson, N.H.) held up the defense to keep the score at 0-0.
  • In the second quarter, the Ravens and Hawks continued to go back and forth. On a penalty corner for the Hawks, Lily Zavras (Worcester, Mass.) clears the ball on a major play to keep Saint Anselm's Leila Härtel from taking a shot.
  • With the score still even after the first half, both teams head into the third quarter looking to put a point on the scoreboard. While the Ravens spent more time on the offensive side of the field, they were still unable to produce any shots.
  • Saint Anselm strikes first with the minutes dwindling down in the third quarter. The ball finds the stick of Hawks midfielder Meghan Carey for the first goal of the night.
  • The Ravens enter the fourth quarter hoping to even the score. In the opening minutes, Sydalia Savage (Skowhegan, Maine) carries the ball downfield for the first shot from the Ravens all game, where it was blocked by a Hawks player. Unfortunately for the Ravens, a tip from Breanna Shorey found Bella DiFiore for another shot into the back of the cage.
  • With a late offensive surge from the Ravens, they were unable to produce anything, allowing the Hawks to keep their winning NE10 record.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) made nine saves.
  • The Ravens had zero penalty corners while the Ravens had 10.
  • Hawks forward Meghan Smith led the team with 6 shots.
