RINDGE, N.H. (4/6/2025) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens softball team were able to split the Sunday doubleheader against their rival Southern New Hampshire with a 6-2 win in game one and a 4-3 loss in game two. Game one was highlighted by a strong pitching performance by the Ravens and in game two a late seventh inning rally fell just short.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens got on the board first in the second inning when Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia) doubled to left field bringing in Kaylee Fraund (Murietta, Calif.) to give the Ravens an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning a Zoey Galindo (Lakewood, Calif.) RBI double scored Clough and Haley Bigwood (Athol, Mass.) to extend the Raven lead to 3-0. Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) then added one more run on an RBI single that scored Galindo, making it 4-0.
- Both teams then settled into a scoreless stalemate for the next few innings until in the fifth the Penman were finally able to break through and scored two runs to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
- The Ravens were able to get back in the scoring column in the fifth as well with an RBI single from Charlit Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) making it a three-run game. In the sixth Lita Vorseth (Mesa, Ariz.) added the Ravens final run with an RBI single that scored Anna Erikson (Temecula, Calif.) making it the final, 6-2.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Ravens outhit the Penman 9-6.
- The Penman committed one error while the Ravens played a clean game in the field.
- Sophomore pitcher Georgia Clough picked up the win in the circle. She pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 9 strikeouts, and walking 6 batters.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Penman jumped on the Ravens early in the first inning after a sacrifice bunt got them on the board 1-0. The Penman continued to add insurance in the third, fifth, and sixth innings score lone runs to make it 4-0 into the bottom of the sixth.
- In the bottom of the sixth the Ravens were able to get on the board after Clough hit another RBI double scoring Hartenstein, making it 4-1. The comeback was on for the Ravens in the seventh when a Hartenstein sacrifice fly cut the deficit in half to 4-2. Fraund then reached base on a hit but an error on the pitcher would make it a one run game but the Penman were able to collect the final out and hold off the Raven comeback, 4-3.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Penman and Ravens each had 8 hits in the game.
- Both teams committed 2 errors.
- Sophomore pitcher Raylee Gilbert (Waterville, Maine) started in the circle for the Ravens and pitched 3 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 earned, and striking out 1 batter in the loss.
NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens head up to Colchester, Vermont to face off against the Purple Knights of Saint Michaels Tuesday April 8th for a doubleheader. Games are scheduled for 3 and 5 pm.
