At #1 doubles, graduate students Joe Herin (Tias, Spain) and Noe Martin (Sainte-Agnès, France) earned a 6-4 win. In the #2 spot, fellow graduates Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France) and Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) defeated their opponents 6-3. The #3 doubles duo of junior Orlando Guerrero (Pachuco, Mexico) and sophomore Hugo Diaz Avila (Barcelona, Spain) turned in a dominant 6-2 victory. The order of finish in doubles was 3, 2, 1.
Despite the early advantage, Franklin Pierce was unable to carry the momentum into singles play, as the visiting Penmen claimed five of the six matches. Hiebel earned the lone singles point for the Ravens with a three-set win at #3 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Ortiz turned in a competitive showing at #4 singles but dropped the match 6-2, 7-5. Guerrero and Diaz Avila were both defeated in straight sets at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.
