SPARKILL, N.Y. (3/23/25) - The Franklin Pierce softball team battled hard but came up short in a Sunday doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas, dropping both games by scores of 4-2 and 8-5. Despite late-inning rallies in both contests, the Ravens were unable to overcome early deficits as the Spartans capitalized on key scoring opportunities.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Thomas Aquinas took control early in the opening game, scoring two runs in the first inning. Eliana Raposo singled up the middle to drive in Maristella Coira before a wild pitch allowed another run to score.
- The Spartans added to their lead in the third inning, capitalizing on another wild pitch to bring home Raposo. Later in the inning, Sofia Marella stole home, making it 4-0.
- Franklin Pierce responded in the fourth when Kaylee Fraund delivered an RBI single, scoring Bella Williams to put the Ravens on the board. In the sixth, Fraund added a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Zoey Galindo to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, the Ravens were unable to generate further offense, as St. Thomas Aquinas held on for the win.

Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans wasted no time in the second game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a solo home run by Trinadey Santiago and an RBI groundout from Jessica Feerick.
- A big third inning for St. Thomas Aquinas saw five runs cross the plate, including a bases-loaded walk, a two-run single from Feerick, and a sacrifice fly. By the end of the frame, the Spartans led 7-0.
- Franklin Pierce fought back in the fifth inning, stringing together a rally that included an RBI double from Taylor Ellis and a sacrifice fly from Maisie Lerette. Haley Bigwood followed with an RBI single before scoring on an errant throw, cutting the deficit to 7-3.
- After St. Thomas Aquinas tacked on another run in the sixth, the Ravens attempted a late comeback in the seventh. Ellis doubled to drive in Fraund, and Amy Jones followed with an RBI double to make it 8-5. However, the rally fell short as the Spartans secured the sweep.
