HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior right hander Esteban Rivera (Hamden, Conn.) gets the start on the bump for the Ravens, as he works himself out of trouble in the opening frame.

  • In the bottom of the second, the Ravens gather runners at the corners. Despite a double play, Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) scores the first run of the game after leading off with a hit.

  • Phoenix Bowman leads off the third inning with a double and eventually moves over to third on a wild pitch. Michael Pascoe then brings him home with a triple to tie the game at 1. Jason Kelly then hits a sacrifice fly to take the lead. After letting up another triple, Rivera gets out of the inning with a pop up.

  • It is bounce-back time for the Ravens as they respond quickly with the first to batters getting on base. After loading the bases, Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, Mass) gets hit by a pitch to tie the game back up. Then, Marcano walks as the Ravens retake the lead 3-2.

  • Rivera responds to the momentum change as he goes out to throw two shutout innings. That was until the 6th, when Rivera worked his way into some trouble where he got taken out of the game, as Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, Mass.) comes into relief. Following the pitching change, Dan Ciotti gets an RBI groundout to make the game even.

  • In the 7th, the train came off the rails for the Ravens. Justin Geiger hits an RBI double to be followed by Shawn LeVan single, scoring two. The Griffins cap off the inning with an RBI groundout from Ryan McNichol.

  • Despite late efforts from DeAndrade, scoring on a passed ball, the deficit was too large for the Ravens to recover, as they take the 9-4 loss.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Griffins outhit the Ravens 10-7.

  • Rivera worked 5 and a third innings in the loss, striking out 4.
