HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The defenses were put to the test early as there were 41 shots combined by both teams in the first period. 29 of those shots were from the Ravens as they were able to put 16 on goal. Though, Annika Lavender had none of it, saving 13 shots in the first 16 minutes of the game. Shortly after her last save, Lavender was penalized for slashing, sidelining her for the remainder of the game.
- The Ravens continued their attack in the second period. Under 3 minutes in, Emma Laroche (Highgate, Vt.) snipes the back of the net, creating the only goal needed for the Ravens win. Almost 6 minutes later, the freshman Maiah Aanenson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) hits her first collegiate goal, extending the Ravens lead, 2-0. Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.) then does it herself as she scores to make it 3-0.
- As the game continued to wind down, the Ravens defense continued to make it impossible to be scored on, as they limited the Purple Knights to only 4 shots on goal for the 3rd period. In the final seconds, the Ravens added one more to their total as Caleigh Murphy (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) puts it in, securing the 4-0 victory.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Ravens outshot the Purple Knights 80-29.
- Both teams went a combined 10-10 on the kill, as the Ravens squandered 8 of those powerplays.
- Junior goaltender Gwen Bowler (Canterbury, N.H.) came out victorious with 17 saves.
