HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Lightning struck first in the top of the 1st inning scoring off an error to take the 1-0 lead off an unearned run.
  • The Ravens responded in the bottom of the 2nd inning as redshirt freshman outfielder Andreas Boglis (Stouffville, Ontario) ripped a single to score senior third baseman Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.), tying the score 1-1.
  • The Lightning offense continued to fire as Dante DiSabatino smoked an RBI triple to score 2 runs, taking the 3-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Then, in the top of the 4th, Anthony Charles smacked a 2-run homer to take the 5-1 lead.
  • The Ravens cut into the deficit in the bottom of the 4th inning as redshirt junior Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-2 Lightning.
  • The next couple innings didn't treat the Ravens kindly. The Lightning scored off a wild pitch in the top of the 5th to go up 6-2. Then, they scored off a ground out in the top of the 7th to take the 7-2 lead. A fielding error in the top of the 7th and an RBI single in the top of the 8th gave them the commanding 9-2 lead.
  • The Ravens wouldn't quit and made a comeback in the bottom of the 9th inning. It started with an RBI double from senior shortstop Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) to score sophomore outfielder Jayden Villanueva (Lowell, Mass.) and cut the deficit to 9-2. Then, Shane Hewlette scored off a wild pitch to make it 9-4 Lightning. Anthony Marcano then grounded out to first and scored Kiobel Lugo to cut it to 9-5. The Ravens late rally continued as Andreas Boglis grounded out to first and junior first baseman Nolan DeAndrade scored to make it 9-6 Lightning. Unfortunately, the Ravens ran out of magic in the bottom of the 9th and fell short 9-6.
