Ravens’ Offensive Fireworks Capture First Win of the Season

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Ravens started the game behind 1-0 after allowing a power play goal in the first period. Grayson Limke scored the goal unassisted within the first seven minutes to set the tone for the Pioneers.

At this point, the Ravens were outscored 6-0 in the season, and it seemed like that trend would continue into the second period. However, in the final minute of the period, sophomore forward Hailey Anderson (Greer, S.C.) buried the Ravens' first goal of the season in the back of the net to even the score.

The goal changed the tone of the game and gave the Ravens momentum. Late in the second period, sophomore forward Caleigh Murphy (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Bo Dean (Toronto, Ontario) scored back-to-back goals in the final three minutes of the period to lift the Ravens to a 3-1 lead.

It was a lead the Ravens would not let go of for the rest of the game. Despite a power play goal by Sacred Heart's Ella Holm, Franklin Pierce kept ahead of their conference rival with redshirt sophomore Brynn Levinson (Glencoe, Ill.) putting the final nail in the coffin for a 4-2 win.

It was an evenly matched game statistically, with the Ravens barely out shooting the Pioneers 33-32. However, the difference was in the power plays as the Pioneers scored twice with the extra skater while the Ravens could not capitalize on the three opportunities they had. It did not come back to haunt them, however, as they were able to control play at even strength.

Now the Ravens stay in Fairfield, looking to complete a series sweep of the Pioneers. They play game two of their series at Matire Family Arena on Saturday, October 11, at 2:00 p.m.
