Ravens Fall Short in Competitive Matchup Against Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (1/8/25) – The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team faced off against the Setters of Pace University in a tightly contested Northeast-10 Conference matchup in New York. Despite strong efforts from Janessa Gonzalez who led the team with 15 points, and Sara Macary  who dominated the boards with 9 rebounds, the Ravens ultimately fell short, dropping the game 51-44.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Janessa Gonzalez (Meridan, Conn.) and Colette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) opened the game with back-to-back baskets, putting the Ravens ahead 4-0, followed by an 8-0 run featuring free throws by Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) and three-pointers from Gonzalez and Saga Tallroth (Stockholm, Sweden), both assisted by Paige Slaven (Long Beach Island, N.J.) 
  • Pace fought back to tie the game at 8-8 and gradually closed the gap, trailing by only two points (22-20) at halftime despite the Ravens' early dominance. 
  • Franklin Pierce managed only three baskets in the second quarter, with Geanna Bryant (Boston, Mass.) scoring just before the half to maintain the Ravens' slim lead. 
  • The third quarter saw multiple lead changes and ties, with Ciara Collins giving Pace their first lead of the game (23-22) and Gonzalez hitting a three-pointer to tie the game at 28-28. 
  • Macary added her 8th point to tie the game at 31-31, and the quarter ended with the teams locked at 33 after two made free throws from Gonzalez. 
  • The fourth quarter remained competitive as Tallroth hit a three-pointer off an assist from Slaven to bring the Ravens within one (42-43), but Pace's Ciara Collins immediately responded with a three-pointer to extend the lead to four. 
  • Pace maintained control for the remainder of the game, securing a 51-44 victory over Franklin Pierce. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • Janessa Gonzalez led the team with 15 points and Sara Macary led the team with 9 rebounds.
  • The Ravens shot 37.5% from the field. The Setters shot 32.1%. 
  • Both teams shot 44.4% from three-point range.  
  • The Ravens had 33 rebounds over the Setter's 29.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team will hit the road again this Saturday, taking on Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 PM as the Ravens look to bounce back and secure their second NE10 victory of the season.
