Ravens Drop First Game of 2025 to Rivier, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. (1/3/25)– The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team opened the second half of the season and first game of 2025 on the road and suffered a tough 3-1 loss to Rivier University Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Raiders of Rivier were first to the scoring in the first period with former Raven Cody Rumsey had the puck fall to him in the crease off a rebound and used the backhander to put it past Raven goaltender Theo Jacobs (Hingham, Mass.) on the powerplay making it 1-0 Raiders 13 minutes into the period.
  • The Raiders added a second goal in the opening minutes of the second period with a rifle of a shot on a one-timer from the blue line off the stick of Carter Poulin, extending the Raider lead to 2-0.
  • Once again in the opening minutes of the third period, another former Raven in Cam Lawhorne slotted it in the net giving the Raiders a commanding 3-0 lead. The Ravens would answer late in the period with Phillip Parker (Medfield, Mass.) by the left faceoff circle placed it over the should of Raider goaltender Luke Newell giving the Ravens one back 3-1 but couldn't get anything else to go for the remaining few minutes in the period.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Ravens outshot the Raiders 28-25.
  • Sophomore Theo Jacobs suffered the loss in net for the Ravens after a solid performance with 22 saves on 25 shots faced.
  • The Ravens went 0-5 on the power play and the Raiders went 1-4.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens stay on the road and matchup against Morrisville State on Tuesday, January 7th. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 pm.
