WEST HAVEN, Conn. (1/25/25) – Despite a strong effort led by Janessa Gonzalez (Meriden, Conn.), who tallied a game-high 17 points, the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team fell to the University of New Haven, 70-51, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- New Haven started strong with an 8-0 run, but the Ravens quickly answered with free throws from Collette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) and a three-pointer from Janessa Gonzalez (Meriden, Conn.) narrowing the score to 10-7. Gonzalez capped off the first quarter with a buzzer-beater to bring Franklin Pierce within two, 14-12.
- Early in the second quarter, Paige Slaven (Long Beach Island, N.J.) tied the game at 14, and Sara Macary's (Naugatuck, Conn.) free throws gave the Ravens their first lead, 16-14. However, the Chargers responded with a three-pointer, keeping the game close. The Ravens held a slim 20-19 lead going into halftime.
- New Haven opened the third quarter with an 11-0 run, extending their largest lead to 10 points. Gonzalez hit a three to stop the surge, and Grace Wiggington (Lenox, Mass.) chipped in six points on a three-pointer and free throws, marking her first career points. Layups by Slaven and Gonzalez cut the deficit to 44-38.
- The Chargers dominated the fourth quarter, building a 16-point lead. Despite additional points from Wiggington, the Ravens couldn't close the gap, falling to New Haven, 60-43.
