Men's Soccer: Second-Half Surge Powers Ravens Past Knights, 3-0

QUEENS, N.Y. (9/7/2024) – The No. 1 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens men's soccer team continued to roll on Saturday night in Queens, producing another shutout with a 3-0 win over the Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens struck first at the 38th minute of the first half. Junior midfielder Antonio Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) fired an initial shot that was blocked, then gathered the second chance and fired a laser from his left foot that he tucked in the right corner. The Ravens took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.  

  • The Ravens added another tally in the 62nd minute. Graduate forward Aaron Sanchez (A Coruña, Spain) came streaking on the right wing and flicked it beautifully in the left corner, giving the Ravens the 2-0 lead.  

  • Freshman defender Miguel D'Amico (São Paulo, Brazil) capped off the win in the 89th minute by beating the keeper with a shot just outside the box to send the Ravens home with the 3-0 victory. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Knights 12-6. 

  • Karl Vernet (Miami, Fl.) picked up his 2nd shutout of the season, making 3 saves.  

  • The Ravens committed 21 fouls compared to 18 from the Knights.  

  • The Ravens had 3 corner kicks compared to 2 from the Knights.  

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens have another non-conference matchup as they travel to Caldwell on Wednesday (9/11). Kickoff is set for 4 PM.
