Women's Soccer: Earns First Win of Season With 4-2 Victory over Mercy

FLUSHING, N.Y. (9/6/2024) – The Ravens traveled to Flushing, New York, to take on the Mavericks of Mercy in their first of two games in the Queens College Conference Challenge. Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) and Jenni Huttunen (Suomi, Finland) scored two goals each to lead the Ravens to their first win of the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Martikainen opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a penalty kick goal to the right corner.
  • Gianna Derose (Brewster, N.Y.) found Brigid Moore (West Springfield, Mass.) on the left wing who sent a perfectly placed pass across the top of the box. Huttunen took a touch and tapped it into the lower right corner to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead.
  • Ancksu Dixon got one back for the Mavericks after Hailey Metzger and Elizabeth Bowles combined a few passes around the Ravens defense to find Dixon in front of Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) for a tap into the lower left corner.
  • Huttunen converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for the Ravens third goal.
  • Less than a minute later, Martikainen sent a free kick from half field into the box to draw another penalty kick. Martikainen scored her second penalty kick of the game to extend the Ravens lead to 4-1.
  • Anna Deutscher tightens the Ravens lead on a through ball from Isabella Messina.
