Men's Soccer: Second-Half Offense Propels Ravens Again, Defeating Felician 3-1

Rutherford, N.J. – The No. 1 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens men's soccer team picked up another victory on Wednesday afternoon, pulling ahead with 2 goals in the 2nd half to defeat No. 16 Felician University 3-1 in a non-conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens wasted no time on offense in the first half, scoring just 4:32 into the contest. Junior forward Guillermo Avendaño (Luanco, Spain) capitalized off a feed from graduate forward Aaron Sanchez (A Coruña, Spain) to take a 1-0 Ravens lead.  

  • The Golden Falcons equalized in the 32nd minute, tying the score at one a piece. Lorenzo Ferrari cashed in off a pass from Alex Ramos. The game remained tied at 1 going into the halftime break.  

  • The Ravens second half offense continued to thrive. Sophomore defender Joaquin Lauria Calvo (Salta, Argentina) put the Ravens in front with a late go-ahead goal in the 87th minute. Followed by his heroics, Aaron Sanchez added another tally in the 89th minute to seal the 3-1 victory for the Ravens.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • The Ravens outshot the Golden Falcons 19-9.  

  • Karl Vernet (Miami, Fl.) secured the win for the Ravens in net (4-0-1), making 2 saves in goal.  

  • The Ravens had 7 corner kicks compared to 4 from the Golden Falcons.  

  • The Ravens recorded 13 fouls and the Golden Falcons recorded 7. 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens begin Northeast-10 conference play on Saturday night (9/21) as they square off against the Assumption Greyhounds. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Sodexo Field.
