Men's Soccer: Ravens Settle for 1-1 Draw in Thriller Against Assumption

Recap by staff-student writer Colin Struckman

RINDGE, N.H. (09/21/2024) – The No. 1 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University Ravens men's soccer team suffered a shocking 1-1 tie against the Assumption University Greyhounds in Northeast-10 conference play. It came on a night where the Ravens received their National Championship rings from 2023 at Sodexo Field.

RECORDS:

  • Franklin Pierce (4-0-2, 0-0-1 NE-10)
  • Assumption (2-0-1, 0-0-1 NE-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens wasted no time getting on the scoresheet in the first half. Alexsi Morel (Huntington Station, N.Y.) fed a beautiful pass to Aaron Sanchez (A Coruña, Spain), who beat the keeper on a one-on-one battle and flicked it by him, putting the Ravens up 1-0, a lead they held for the remainder of the first half.

  • The Ravens remained in control for nearly the entire game. The 82nd minute sent shockwaves around Sodexo Field. Cody Holbert of Assumption came barreling along the right wing and fired a beauty in the left corner of the goal, just past the diving reach of Karl Vernet (Miami, Fl.), tying the score 1-1 which ended up being the final in a shocking turn of events.
