Ravens Fall Short in Battle with Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/20/24) –  Despite the Ravens showing late life, it was not enough to mount a comeback against the Greyhounds with a 96-85 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Ravens had a back-and-forth battle in the first half. Graduate guard Saeer Miller (Philadelphia, PA.) contributed early as he put up two assists and four points and graduate guard Donte Pope (Middletown, Conn.) rattled off 9 points to get the Ravens within a score before the half ended. The Greyhounds countered with excellent offense including Kyle Hicks having 10 points and 3 assists, keeping the Ravens behind. With five minutes left in the first half, the Greyhounds started to pull away from the Ravens as they went on an 11-3 run over the next couple of minutes, expanding their lead to 42-33. The Ravens followed that by scoring 7 unassisted points to make it a one-score game before the end of the half. With a late layup by Barilugbene Mawo, Assumption took a 44-40 lead into the half.  

  • The Ravens opened the 2nd half with a slow start. Jamal Barnes scores 5 points in the first two minutes of the half to get things going for the Greyhounds. Senior forward Aboubacar Wague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) answers with 4 points of his own in the next two minutes following two perfect free throws. The Greyhounds gained 22 rebounds in the second half to help keep them attacking offensively. The Ravens trailed 18 points with 9 minutes to go until the redshirt freshman guard Nathaniel Smith (Toronto, Ontario) began a tear of his own, scoring 14 points within the remaining 9 minutes. Through 8 lead changes, the Greyhounds finally pulled away in the final minute, securing an impressive 96-85 victory over the Ravens. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • The Ravens shot 51.6% from the field (32-of-62), and the Greyhounds shot 54.8% (40-of-73).  

  • The Ravens had 42 bench points, while the Greyhounds had 60 bench points. 

  • The Ravens shot 71.4% for free throws (15-of-21), as the Greyhounds shot 58.8% for free throws (10-of-17). 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:The Ravens head back for another conference game at home against Saint Anselm on Tuesday (11/26). Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
