Men's and Women's Tennis Take Down St. Michael's, Wednesday

RINDGE, N.H. (10/02/24) - The Franklin Pierce men's and women's tennis team hosted the St. Michael's Purple Knights, Wednesday. Both teams were victorious in their respective matches. The men's tennis team is ranked seventh in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll.  

RECORDS:  

  • Men's: FPU: 3-1 (3-1 NE10), Saint Michael's: 1-2 (0-2 NE10)  
  • Women's: FPU 4-4 (3-4 NE10), Saint Michael's: 2-7 (1-5 NE10)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The men's match was the first on the day. The Ravens took the opening doubles point, only losing three games in the top two spots to clinch.  

  • The Ravens led 3-0 after Ralph Hiebel (Paris, France) won at No. 3 and Joe Herin (Tias, Spain) won at No. 1, 6-0,6-0.  

  • Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) won 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, to earn the Ravens the fourth point for the win. 

  • The women's match followed around 3 PM. At No. 1 doubles, Victoria Azcona (Madid, Spain) and Maria Paz Diaz Florentin (Asuncion, Paraguay) picked up the first win of the match, 6-3. Zoe Asterio-Correa (Tononto, Ontario) and Gabriela Yamate (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed suit with a 6-3 win.  

  • Polina Georgieva (Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria)opened singles with a 6-0,6-0 win at No. 1. Asterio-Correa picked up her second win of the day at No. 2. The only loss for the Ravens came at No. 3 singles.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Men's and women's tennis host Marist on Monday, October 7. The women's tennis team will be honoring their 2024-25 seniors around 2 PM.
