Women's Tennis Competes at Holy Cross Doubles Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 2, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was in action on Saturday afternoon, at the Holy Cross Doubles Invitational, where the team's doubles pairings squared off with teams from Assumption, as well as the host Crusaders. Across eight contests against a high level of competition, the Ravens put together a 2-6 mark.

"I am very pleased with the team's competitive results," said head coach Peter Arsenault after play concluded. "It was a good day for them overall, considering the tough competition.

Franklin Pierce picked up a win each from its top two doubles teams on Saturday. The most competitive match of the day involving Ravens came in a clash between their top doubles squad and the top pair from Holy Cross. Senior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) scratched out an 8-7 (6) win for Franklin Pierce.

The other win on the day for Franklin Pierce came courtesy of the second doubles squad of sophomores Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) and Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine). They pulled out an 8-5 win over the second doubles team from Holy Cross.

Elsewhere, O'Donnell and Rich, as well as the Ravens' third doubles team of senior Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Kelly Wilson (Hyde Park, N.Y.), both put up strong efforts against Holy Cross' fifth doubles squad. Both Franklin Pierce duos suffered 8-5 defeats.

The Ravens return to the court on Monday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Post for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
