WALTHAM, Mass. (April 11, 2014) – Bentley tacked on
a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings Friday to pick
up a 5-0 win over the Franklin Pierce University softball team at
Bentley Field in Waltham, Mass.
The Ravens fell to 4-15 overall and
3-9 in the Northeast-10 (1-7 Northeast Division), while the Falcons
improved to 11-11 and 5-7 in league play (3-3 NE Div.).
Shannon Connor went 2-for-3,
including driving in a pair on a single in the fifth inning to
highlight Bentley's two-run frame. Laura McDonough added an
RBI base hit in the sixth for the Falcons. Franklin Pierce also did
not help its cause by committing four errors that led to two more
Bentley runs.
Mandi Adee (Kinderhook,
N.Y.) was tagged with the loss in the pitching circle for
the Ravens, as she went the distance but yielded five runs on nine
hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Adee's counterpart, Carly
Taitz, worked 4.2 innings to earn the win as she scattered two hits
to go along with four strikeouts and only one walk. Kelly Ferris
earned the save by pitching 2.1 innings of no-hit ball.
Karissa Forzese (Methuen,
Mass.) and Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent,
N.Y.) accounted for Franklin Pierce's offensive
attack, as Forzese smacked a double while Wiley stroked a
single.
Franklin Pierce and Bentley return
to action Saturday with a doubleheader between the two clubs at
Bentley Field in Waltham. Game one is slated to begin at 12 p.m.,
with game two to start at approximately 2 p.m.
