WALTHAM, Mass. (February 25, 2014) – Three
different Bentley players scored 18 points apiece, and the Falcons
downed the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team,
80-66, Tuesday night in the regular season finale at the Dana
Center in Waltham, Mass.
Bentley improved to 16-10 overall
and 10-10 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens dipped to 20-6 and
15-6 in league play.
Tyler McFarland, Keegan Hyland, and
Jasper Grassa each tossed in 18 for Bentley, while Alex Furness and
Shaq Phelps chipped in 11 apiece.
Adrianos Vourliotakis
Perdikaris (Cholargos, Athens) and Paul Becklens
(Boston, Mass.) each threw in 11 points for the Ravens in
the setback, as they will now advance to Sunday's
quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at 3 p.m.
in The Fieldhouse. More information on the conference post-season
tournament will be released later this week.
Bentley shot 48 percent from the
floor, while the Ravens struggled at 36 percent. The Falcons also
held a 31-25 advantage on the boards, including getting 10 rebounds
from Hyland to post a double-double.
Bentley used a quick 7-0 run midway
through the first half to open up a 21-11 advantage. Grassa bombed
in a three to kick-start the surge, while Phelps and McFarland laid
in a basket each to aid it.
Franklin Pierce countered briefly
with six of the next eight points, keyed by baskets from
Ant Lessane (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Becklens, to pull within
six at 23-17. However, Grassa dropped in another bucket at the
other end, and the Falcons eventually took a 33-23 advantage into
the locker room at halftime.
The second half didn't go any
better for the Ravens, and a three-point play from Hyland and a
layup from Phelps early in the stanza staked Bentley to a 42-27
lead.
The Falcons led by as many as 20 on
multiple occasions late to cruise in for the win.
