RINDGE, N.H. (October 4, 2014) – The
Franklin Pierce volleyball team came out and made a statement on
Saturday afternoon, proving they are a talented, young team as they
swept the LIU Post Pioneers 3-0 at the Fieldhouse. The win now
extends the Ravens win streak to six games in a row, and with the
past two wins could help them down the stretch when it comes to
postseason play.
The day belonged to senior Catie Swiderski
(Rocky Point, N.Y.) and sophomore Kelsey Hausman
(Sandy, Utah) as the two veterans led the team in various
facets of the game, mostly displaying mental toughness.
The Ravens once again came out fired up, taking the first set
with ease 25-19. Both the second and third sets were where the
Ravens showed poise, as both sets went extra points. Franklin
Pierce was able to capitalize on errors and exploit weakness in the
defense to take a 26-24 win in both sets, ultimately sweeping the
match.
Swiderski and sophomore Aiden Garcia (Eagle
Pass, T.X.) each recorded a team-high 11 kills, while
Hausman and juniors Sarah MacHugh (Red
Hook, N.Y.) and Catherine Purdy
(Ossining, N.Y.) all collected double figure digs. Hausman
finished with 18, MacHugh with 14, and Purdy with 12. The offense
was facilitated by freshman Hannah Runge
(Deltona, Fla.), who tossed out 36 assists. Freshman
Hannah St. Jean
(Olympia, Wash.) backed up her 11 block night on Friday
with five more on Saturday to lead the team in that category.
Analise Austin was the only Pioneer with double-figure kills
with 11, while Lulu Centro was able to pass around 28 assists on
offense. Defensively, Rachel Ringor led the team with 19 digs,
while Austin completed her double-double with 14 digs of her own.
Austin also chipped in with a team-high three blocks.
The Ravens improve to 9-6 overall and now hit the road on
Tuesday for their next match when they take on Southern New
Hampshire in Manchester.
